What an exciting time for Kat & Drew! Not only are they in the process of planning for their wedding in October, they’re also expecting! Kat is about 34 weeks along so we decided to turn this into an engagement/maternity session.

I met up with Kat and Drew at Scott Mills Park in Kalamazoo which was only about 20 minutes away from my house.  How do I not know about this park after living here for 5 years?!  With 3 children (all under the age of 10), we visit a lot of parks and explore new playgrounds constantly but have never visited Scott Mills Park.  It was a secluded park with a lot of interesting features: the mill, the water and the walking trail.  This was such a great backdrop for the engagement shoot.

They were the sweetest couple and you could tell they adored each other. Drew also mentioned how having his pictures taken was easier than he had anticipated.  Most guys do NOT like getting their pictures taken so I was glad to hear it was a good experience for him.  Most of the times, I like to do candid shots of my couples to show their real personalities and also prompt them to just do natural poses as I shoot.

As much as I complain about Michigan weather (because of how constantly AND instantly it changes), I have to admit that Michigan has some of the most beautiful natural backdrops for photos (just look at the photos below – the background almost doesn’t look real but I promise you it is).  The grass is also definitely greener in Michigan.

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in October when there’s even more colors in the background!
