Winters in Michigan are either very beautiful (with fresh snow on the ground and trees) or very ugly (with dead brown grass every). This winter, we haven’t had much snow and I’m definitely NOT complaining. However, with engagement season upon us, doing an outdoor engagement session in the cold with no snow just isn’t very exciting. Therefore, I wanted to do an in-home lifestyle engagement session to show that you can still get beautiful pictures indoors during the wintertime.
I wanted to create a casual, cozy and playful environment and therefore invited Cassie and DJ over to my house for this session last Sunday. They’re both currently engaged and planning on getting married next summer.
A lifestyle session would not be complete without coffee, food and candles (at least in MY life :)) so these were naturally included as props:
People ask me how all the time how I’m able to capture certain emotions or poses on camera. Honestly, before I shoot any session, I have to first envision it in my head and photograph the session it as if I’m the one being photographed. Once my vision comes together, I can then execute it and prompt my subjects to pose a certain way or show a specific emotion. Here, I asked Cassie and DJ to do a simple slow dance together:
Capturing some intimate moments:
I absolutely love this shot of Cassie in her slouchy sweater and coffee in hand. Total Sunday vibes:
Some fun bed shots:

I hope you enjoyed this session as much as I did photographing it and hope it gives you some inspiration for your own engagement session. I absolutely love doing indoor lifestyle sessions because it captures people in their natural element. Contact me if you’d like your engagement photos taken (you’re welcome to use my house for the session)!
